About Boston Insights & AXIOM
Boston Insights is revolutionizing the clinical supply chain with BI-AXIOM—an AI-powered, real-time command center that unifies data, decisions, and risk management across the clinical supply lifecycle. As we scale our SaaS based modular platform, we seek a strategic Principal Platform Architect to build our next-generation foundation.
The Role
The Principal Platform Architect is the strategic technical lead responsible for Architecture Governance, Compliance Implementation, and Security Strategy for the AXIOM platform. You will establish and enforce enterprise architectural standards and engineering directives.
This senior hybrid role requires toggling between hands-on engineering (building PoCs, reviewing Infrastructure as Code) and strategic leadership (representing security posture to enterprise clients, translating technical decisions to leadership). You will own engineering management, technical reviews for product and Infrastructure and collaborate with business stakeholders to build enterprise-grade platform.
Key Responsibilities
1. Multi-Tenant Platform Design & Data Engineering
• Design and govern robust multi-tenant architecture with strict data isolation, security, and governance across tenants.
• Establish a scalable tenant onboarding/offboarding of tenants, and data sources.
• Define strategies for shared vs dedicated infrastructure.
• Define, document, and enforce overarching architecture, engineering standards, and deployment directives.
• Architect future-proof foundation supporting AI-powered modules and advanced AI data pipelines across frontend and backend.
2. Metadata-Driven Framework Design
• Architect metadata-driven ingestion and transformation frameworks.
• Enable configuration-based pipeline orchestration over code-heavy solutions.
• Design metadata tables for ingestion rules, transformation logic, data quality rules, and pipeline orchestration.
• Enable future tenant support with minimal engineering effort.
3. Enterprise Data Architecture & Governance
• Design scalable, secure, high-performance enterprise data engineering frameworks with reusable components for ingestion, transformation, quality, and lineage.
• Establish data architecture standards, governance models, and best practices aligned with the product roadmap.
• Architect solutions using Data Lakehouse patterns, streaming/batch processing, and distributed processing frameworks.
• Define data governance strategy encompassing metadata-driven quality frameworks, data lineage, cataloging, validation, monitoring & alerting.
• Typical stack: cloud platforms, data lakes, distributed processing engines, data warehouses, metadata catalog systems.
4. Hands-On Engineering & Deep-Dive Execution
• Build PoCs for complex features, establish baseline IaC modules, resolve tier-3 architectural escalations.
• Architect and validate automated deployment pipelines for App/Backend code, Power BI (PBIP), and Azure Data Factory.
• Act as final technical authority on tool selection, CI/CD pipeline structures (Azure DevOps), and infrastructure design (Terraform/Bicep).
• Design synthetic data seeders and automated health-check APIs for platform integrity validation.
5. AI Strategy & Predictive/Prescriptive Analytics
• Define and drive the AI strategy and roadmap for BI-AXIOM, aligning predictive and prescriptive analytics capabilities with product vision and customer needs.
• Evaluate and architect data platform components leveraging Azure Databricks, Snowflake, and similar advanced analytics platforms to enable ML-driven demand forecasting, risk prediction, and supply chain optimization.
• Design prescriptive analytics workflows that translate model outputs into actionable recommendations for clinical supply chain decision-makers (e.g., proactive rebalancing, expiry mitigation, scenario planning).
• Establish feature engineering, model training, and inference pipelines integrated with the AXIOM data platform, ensuring scalability, reproducibility, and governance of ML artifacts.
6. Security, Compliance, and Business Continuity
• Implement platform security posture and compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO standards) ensuring strict adherence.
• Architect for disaster recovery, business continuity, and audit readiness with autonomous cloud environment rebuild capability from source code.
• Design and enforce enterprise-grade security patterns: Managed Identities, Key Vault secret management, zero-trust networking, dynamic endpoint configuration.
• Ensure database schema migrations and data pipelines maintain Zero Data Loss guarantee.
7. Executive & Customer Representation
• Serve as technical face of AXIOM in enterprise pharma client discussions, explaining security posture, data isolation, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Translate architectural trade-offs, technical debt, and cloud costs (FinOps) into business-focused insights for CEO and executive leadership.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Experience
• 10+ years progressive experience in software engineering, cloud infrastructure, and data platform architecture, including full platform lifecycle (infrastructure, CI/CD, data platforms, application deployment, production observability).
• 5+ years in a Lead Architect role designing multi-tenant SaaS or Enterprise Data/BI platforms with ownership of production architecture for external enterprise customers (uptime, security, operational scalability).
• Hands-on experience designing multi-tenant data and application architectures including tenant isolation, provisioning automation, and lifecycle management.
• Designed and tested disaster recovery and business continuity architectures with defined RTO/RPO targets.
Technical Expertise
• Cloud Platforms: Deep, authoritative knowledge of Microsoft Azure ecosystem (App Services, Managed Identities, Key Vault, Azure Storage, Networking).
• Infrastructure as Code: Expert-level proficiency in Terraform or Azure Bicep with focus on modularity, remote state management, and idempotency.
• Data & BI Architecture: Strong understanding of Azure Data Factory, modern data warehousing, and Power BI deployment lifecycles.
• AI/ML Infrastructure: Experience designing platforms supporting AI-driven data pipelines, ML model integration (MLOps), and deploying AI services to frontend/backend environments. Familiarity with Azure Databricks, Snowflake platforms for building predictive and prescriptive analytics capabilities.
• DevOps & CI/CD: Advanced experience with Azure DevOps (Pipelines, YAML, Repos), defining release flows, gating, and automated quality checks.
• FinOps: Experience designing cloud cost-tracking structures (tagging strategies, resource optimization).
Leadership & Soft Skills
• Executive Presence: Proven ability presenting complex technical architectures to non-technical C-suite executives and external enterprise clients.
• Compliance Execution: Strong background practically implementing systems for strict compliance audits (SOC 2, ISO, HIPAA, or GDPR).
• Remote Leadership: Highly self-directed, driving alignment, velocity, and accountability across distributed, remote engineering teams in India.
